What is the Barbell Cleans?
The Barbell Clean is a compound exercise that engages the whole body, particularly the muscles of the legs, hips, back, and shoulders. It is widely used in weightlifting and CrossFit to improve strength, power, and coordination. This complex exercise requires good technique and proper warm-up to avoid injuries.
How to properly perform the Barbell Cleans
- Start with the barbell on the floor in front of you, standing with your feet hip-width apart.
- With a shoulder-width grip, bend your knees and hinge forward at your hips to grip the barbell, keeping your back flat and core engaged.
- Drive through your heels, extend your hips, and explosively pull the barbell up, shrugging your shoulders and using the momentum to propel the barbell upward.
- As the barbell reaches chest level, quickly drop underneath it, rotating your elbows forward and catching the barbell on the front of your shoulders in a front squat position.
- Stand up tall, extending your hips and knees, and bring the barbell to a resting position on the front of your shoulders.
- Lower the barbell back down to the starting position by reversing the movement, bending your knees and hinging forward at your hips.
- Repeat for the recommended number of repetitions.
