What is the Dumbbell Shrugs?

The dumbbell shrugs are a simple and effective exercise that targets the trapezius muscles, ideal for strengthening and stabilizing the upper back. Favored by both beginners and seasoned athletes, this exercise helps improve posture and prevent potential injuries caused by weak trapezius muscles.

How to properly perform the Dumbbell Shrugs

  1. Stand up straight with a dumbbell in each hand, arms fully extended, and palms facing your torso.
  2. Keep your eyes facing forward, lift the dumbbells by elevating the shoulders as high as possible while you exhale. Keep the arms extended at all times. Continue to lift the weights until your shoulders are near your ears.
  3. Pause for a second at the top, then start to slowly lower the dumbbells back to the original position while inhaling.
  4. Repeat for the recommended amount of repetitions.
