What is the Standing EZ Bar Curl on a Preacher Stand?

The standing EZ bar curl is a biceps isolation exercise done with the upper arms resting on a preacher stand while you stay on your feet instead of seated. The angled grip of the EZ bar holds the wrists in a semi-supinated position, which is easier on the wrist and elbow joints than a straight bar, and the pad under the arms removes the swing and the hip drive that creep into ordinary standing curls. What is left is a short, clean range of motion loaded straight through the biceps brachii, with peak tension arriving in the first third of the curl rather than at the top. Because cheating is mechanically impossible here, expect to move less weight than on a standing barbell curl, and treat that as normal. Three sets of 8 to 12 controlled reps, with a deliberate pause and squeeze at the top of each one, is the standard prescription for arm size.

  2. Stand with your upper arms resting on the bench and grip the bar with a supinated grip.
  3. Keep your elbows close to your body and curl the bar toward your shoulders.
  4. Pause at the top of the movement, squeezing your biceps.
