What is the Atlas Stones?
The atlas stones are an iconic Strongman exercise that requires total body strength and proper technique. Ideal for developing power, stability, and coordination, this exercise emphasizes the back muscles, legs, arms, and shoulders. Though demanding, it offers significant benefits in terms of strength and endurance.
How to properly perform the Atlas Stones
- Stand in front of an atlas stone, with your feet shoulder-width apart and slightly bent knees.
- Squat down and wrap your arms around the stone, interlocking your fingers for a secure grip.
- Engage your core and lift the stone off the ground by driving through your legs and hips.
- As you lift the stone, use your arms and shoulders to guide and control the movement.
- Stand up fully, extending your hips and knees, and hold the stone at your chest or shoulder height.
- Lower the stone back down to the ground in a controlled manner by squatting down and using your legs and hips.
- Repeat for the recommended number of repetitions or as desired.
