What is the Single Knee To Chest Stretch?
The single knee to chest stretch draws one knee toward the chest while the other leg stays extended along the floor, and that asymmetry is what distinguishes it from the two-legged version. Keeping the opposite leg straight holds that hip in extension, so the stretch concentrates on the glute and the posterior hip of the bent side rather than spreading across the whole lower back. It also makes it obvious when one side is tighter than the other, which the double version hides completely. It is gentle enough for almost anyone, needs no equipment, and works equally well first thing in the morning, at the end of a session, or during a long day at a desk. Pull with the hands rather than lifting with the abdominals, and keep breathing steadily instead of holding your breath.
How to properly perform the Single Knee To Chest Stretch
- Lie on your back with your legs extended.
- Bend one knee and draw it toward your chest, using your hands to pull it gently in.
- Hold the position for 15 to 30 seconds, feeling the stretch in the buttock and the hip.
- Slowly release the leg and repeat on the other side.
