What is the Cable Hip Abduction?
The cable hip abductions are an isolation exercise that primarily targets the hip abductor muscles. This exercise is excellent for improving hip stability and strengthening the muscles around the thigh and glutes. Suitable for beginners and beneficial for advanced athletes, the cable machine allows for controlled resistance for safe execution.
How to properly perform the Cable Hip Abduction
- Attach an ankle cuff to your ankle and secure the other end of the cable to a low pulley.
- Stand sideways to the cable machine with your leg farthest from the machine.
- Keep your upper body upright and your core engaged.
- With a slight bend in your knee, lift your leg laterally away from the machine.
- Pause at the top of the movement, then slowly lower your leg back to the starting position.
- Repeat for the recommended number of repetitions, then switch sides.
