What is the Incline Cable Fly on a Stability Ball?

The incline cable fly loads the pectorals along an upward line, which brings the clavicular fibres of the upper chest into the movement more than a flat fly does. Cables are what make the variation worth choosing: their resistance runs along the line of the cable rather than straight down, so tension stays on the chest at the top of the arc where the hands meet and a dumbbell would offer almost nothing at all. Lying back over a stability ball provides the incline without a bench and adds a continuous demand on the trunk to hold the position steady. Keep a slight fixed bend in the elbows throughout, since straightening them strains the joint and bending them further turns the fly into a press. Lower only until you feel a stretch, not until the shoulders roll forward.

How to properly perform the Incline Cable Fly on a Stability Ball

  1. Lie back on a stability ball with your upper back supported and your feet flat on the floor.
  2. Hold the cable handles with your arms extended above your chest, palms facing each other.
  3. Lower the cables out to the sides under control, feeling a stretch across your chest.
  4. Bring the cables back together above your chest, squeezing your pectorals.
  5. Repeat for the recommended number of repetitions.
