What is the Cobra Stretch?

The cobra stretch is a flexibility and mobility exercise that mainly targets the back muscles, shoulders, and abdomen. It is commonly included in yoga and rehabilitation routines to enhance spinal flexibility and reduce muscle tension.

How to properly perform the Cobra Stretch

  1. Start by lying face down on the floor with your legs extended and the tops of your feet touching the ground.
  2. Place your hands directly under your shoulders, fingers pointing forward.
  3. Press your palms into the floor and gently lift your upper body off the ground, keeping your hips and legs in contact with the floor.
  4. Straighten your arms as much as comfortable and allow your head to tilt back slightly, looking upwards.
  5. Hold the stretch for 20 to 30 seconds, breathing deeply and feeling the stretch in your chest, shoulders, and abdomen.
  6. Slowly lower your upper body back down to the starting position.
