What is the Landmine Bent Over Row?
The landmine bent over row is a two-handed pulling exercise performed with one end of a barbell anchored in a landmine attachment or a corner, hinging at the hips and rowing the free end to your chest. The fixed pivot changes the strength curve of a standard row: resistance comes from an arc rather than straight down, so the rhomboids, traps and lats stay loaded through a longer stretch at the bottom. Why choose it over a barbell row? The angled bar path is friendlier on the lower back, and most lifters build strength fastest here with sets of 8 to 12 controlled reps rather than heavy singles. Bracing matters as much as pulling. A flat back and tight abs keep the hips from unhinging as the bar comes up, and pausing for a beat at the chest stops the reps from turning into a swing driven by the lower back.
How to properly perform the Landmine Bent Over Row
- Set up a landmine station by placing one end of a barbell in a landmine attachment or securely in a corner.
- Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, facing the bar.
- With a slight bend in your knees, hinge forward at the hips, keeping your back flat and your abs braced.
- Grab the bar with both hands in an overhand grip, palms facing your body, and let your arms extend fully.
- Keeping your elbows close to your body, pull the bar to your chest, squeezing your shoulder blades together.
- Pause at the top of the movement, then lower the bar slowly to the starting position.
- Repeat for the recommended number of reps.
