What is the Seated Dip Machine?

The seated dip machine reproduces the pushing pattern of a parallel bar dip while your back stays supported and your feet stay on the floor. Because the path is fixed and the load is selected on a stack rather than determined by your bodyweight, you can start well below what a bodyweight dip demands and progress in small, measurable steps. That makes it a practical entry point for beginners and a straightforward way to add triceps volume at the end of a pushing session, when a bodyweight dip would already be out of reach. Setting the seat so the handles sit at shoulder height is what keeps the movement in a range the shoulder tolerates. The trade-off is real: the machine removes the stabilising work that free dips demand, so it complements them rather than replacing them.

How to properly perform the Seated Dip Machine

  1. Sit on the dip machine and adjust the seat so the handles are at shoulder height.
  2. Grip the handles firmly with your palms facing down.
  3. Keep your back flat against the backrest and your feet flat on the floor.
  4. Push the handles down by extending your arms fully, contracting the triceps.
  5. Return the handles slowly to the starting position under control.
  6. Repeat for the recommended number of repetitions.
