What is the Suspended Push Up with TRX?
The suspended push up places the feet in suspension straps while the hands stay on the floor, and the instability underneath changes what the movement demands. A standard push up asks the chest, triceps and front deltoids to move your bodyweight; suspend the feet and the core must additionally resist the constant small corrections the straps introduce, which turns the exercise into serious anti-extension work for the abdominals. Raising the feet also shifts more of your bodyweight onto the arms, so the pressing demand climbs at the same time. It is a genuine progression rather than a variation, and it should follow a clean set of full push ups on the floor. Keep the hips from sagging: the moment the lower back drops, the core has stopped doing its job. Widening the hands slightly makes the position more stable at first, and lowering the straps closer to the floor reduces the difficulty without changing the pattern.
How to properly perform the Suspended Push Up with TRX
- Adjust the TRX straps so they sit at mid-calf height.
- Position yourself face down with your feet suspended in the straps and your hands on the floor, slightly wider than shoulder-width apart.
- Brace your abs, keep your body straight and lower your chest toward the floor by bending your elbows.
- Push back up until your arms are straight, holding the line from head to heels.
- Repeat for the recommended number of repetitions.
