What is the Barbell Shrugs?

Barbell shrugs are a weight training exercise that primarily targets the trapezius muscles. Easy to execute, this exercise is excellent for developing strength and muscle mass in the trapezius, as well as improving posture. It is suitable for both beginners and advanced practitioners.

How to properly perform the Barbell Shrugs

  1. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, holding a barbell in front of your thighs with an overhand grip.
  2. Keep your back straight and engage your core.
  3. Shrug your shoulders upward, lifting the barbell as high as possible.
  4. Squeeze your shoulder blades together at the top of the movement.
  5. Pause briefly, then lower the barbell back down to the starting position.
