What is the Chest Supported EZ Bar Front Raise?
The EZ bar front raise is a shoulder isolation exercise that lifts an angled barbell straight out in front of the torso to load the anterior deltoid. Performing it with the chest supported on an incline bench removes momentum from the legs and the lower back, so the front delts do the work through a clean range of motion. Because the anterior deltoid already picks up heavy indirect work from every pressing movement, this raise belongs late in a session as a finisher rather than as a main lift. Most lifters get more out of 12 to 15 controlled reps with a light bar than out of heavy sets that turn into a shrug. The angled grip of an EZ bar keeps the wrists in a more neutral position, which is why many trainees prefer it to a straight bar here. Beginners and advanced athletes alike use it to build shoulder definition.
How to properly perform the Chest Supported EZ Bar Front Raise
- Set the incline bench to a comfortable angle.
- Lie face down on the bench with your chest supported and your feet flat on the floor.
- Grab the EZ bar with an overhand grip, hands shoulder-width apart.
- Keeping your arms straight, lift the EZ bar out in front of you until it reaches shoulder height.
- Pause briefly at the top, then lower the EZ bar back to the starting position under control.
- Repeat for the recommended number of reps.
