What is the Korean Dips?
Korean dips are a bodyweight pushing exercise done on a waist-high parallel bar, with the body in front of the bar and the arms locked out behind the back. The torso travels forward over the bar as the elbows bend, which loads the chest, the triceps and the front of the shoulders through a far deeper stretch than a standard dip allows. That extreme shoulder extension is also what makes the movement demanding: most lifters need several weeks of regular dips and honest shoulder mobility before a full set feels safe. Starting with 3 to 5 slow reps and adding volume only once the bottom position feels stable and pain free is the sensible route. Popular in calisthenics and street workout circles, the variation builds pressing strength and upper body control without any added load, and it fits neatly at the start of a push session while the shoulders are still fresh.
How to properly perform the Korean Dips
- Hang from a waist-high parallel bar with your body facing forward and your arms straight behind you.
- Slowly bring your torso forward over the bar by bending your elbows.
- Lower yourself until your shoulders are level with your elbows or slightly below.
- Squeeze your chest and triceps to press back up to the starting position.
- Keep your core braced and avoid swinging.
- Repeat for the recommended number of reps.
