What is the Cable EZ Bar Curl?
The cable EZ bar curl combines two pieces of equipment that each solve a specific problem. The EZ bar's angled grips let the wrists sit in a semi-supinated position rather than fully turned out, which removes the strain that a straight bar puts on the wrist and elbow of anyone with limited forearm rotation. The cable keeps tension on the biceps at the bottom of the movement, where a free bar hangs in line with the arm and offers almost no resistance at all. Together they produce a curl that is comfortable to perform and loaded through its whole range. Keep the elbows close to the torso and the upper arms still, and resist leaning back as the set gets hard: the moment the torso moves, the lower back has started lifting what the biceps could not.
How to properly perform the Cable EZ Bar Curl
- Stand upright holding an EZ bar attached to a low pulley with an underhand grip.
- With your elbows close to your torso and your upper arms still, curl the weight up while contracting your biceps as you exhale.
- Continue the movement until your biceps are fully contracted and the bar is at shoulder height.
- Hold the contracted position for a moment, squeezing the biceps.
- Slowly begin returning the bar to the starting position as you inhale.
- Repeat for the recommended number of repetitions.
