What is the Seated Single Leg Hamstring Stretch?

The seated single leg hamstring stretch is a simple yet effective exercise for improving the flexibility of the muscles at the back of the thigh, specifically the hamstrings. Suitable for all fitness levels, this stretch can help prevent injuries and enhance performance in activities requiring good leg flexibility.

How to properly perform the Seated Single Leg Hamstring Stretch

  1. Sit on the floor with one leg extended in front of you and the other leg bent at the knee.
  2. Keep your back straight and tall.
  3. Reach forward with both hands and gently lean forward from your hips, aiming to touch your toes or reach as far as you comfortably can.
  4. Feel the stretch in the back of your extended leg, specifically in the hamstring muscles.
  5. Hold the stretch for 20 to 30 seconds while maintaining a relaxed breathing pattern.
  6. Switch legs and repeat the stretch on the other side.
