What is the Single Leg Good Morning on a Bosu?

The single leg good morning is a hip hinge performed on one leg, with the free leg extending backward as a counterweight. It trains the hamstrings and glutes of the standing leg through a long range while demanding balance and control from the hip and the ankle, which is why coaches reach for it as much for stability as for strength. Resting the free leg on a Bosu adds a point of contact that takes some of the balance problem away, making the pattern accessible before the free-standing version is realistic. The hinge is what makes it work: the movement comes from pushing the hips backward, not from bending at the waist, and the back stays flat throughout. Watch for the free leg's hip opening toward the ceiling, which switches the hamstring off. The load required is small compared with a bilateral hinge, so this fits neatly into home training and into the later stages of a hamstring rehabilitation programme.

How to properly perform the Single Leg Good Morning on a Bosu

  1. Stand on one leg with the other leg slightly bent behind you, resting on a Bosu.
  2. Keep your back flat and brace your core.
  3. Lower your torso forward while extending the free leg backward, holding your balance.
  4. Return to the starting position by driving the hips forward and squeezing the glute.
  5. Repeat for the recommended number of repetitions, then switch legs.
