What is the Single Leg Press?

The single leg press is the unilateral version of the 45 degree leg press, performed with one foot on the platform and the other leg hanging free. Its value is diagnostic as much as it is strength-related: almost everybody is stronger on one side, and a two-legged press lets the dominant leg quietly take more of the load without either of you noticing. Pressing one leg at a time removes that option and shows you the gap in repetitions and kilos. It also reduces the total load on the machine while keeping the effort on the working leg high, which makes it a sensible choice when returning from an injury or when you want leg volume without heavy spinal or systemic fatigue. Keep the knee tracking over the foot rather than drifting past the toes.

How to properly perform the Single Leg Press

  1. Position yourself on the sled with one foot on the platform and the other leg hanging free.
  2. Keeping your back flat and your core braced, push through the foot on the platform to move the sled.
  3. Control the movement and do not let your knee travel past your toes.
  4. Return slowly to the starting position, controlling the descent.
