What is the Standing Dumbbell Arnold Press?

The Standing Dumbbell Arnold Press is a compound exercise that primarily targets the deltoid muscles and triceps. Popularized by Arnold Schwarzenegger, this exercise is particularly effective for targeting the entire shoulder muscles in a single range of motions. It is suitable for both beginners and advanced practitioners aiming to enhance their muscle strength and development.

How to properly perform the Standing Dumbbell Arnold Press

  1. Hold a dumbbell in each hand with your palms facing your body and arms bent.
  2. Begin by lifting the dumbbells up to shoulder level, performing a cleaning motion, by slightly bending your legs and using the force of your hips to generate the momentum.
  3. Once the dumbbells are on your shoulders, rotate your palms to face outward.
  4. Push the dumbbells upward by performing a bending motion at your elbows while rotating your palms to face forward when the dumbbells are in the high position.
  5. Slowly lower the dumbbells back down to the starting position, performing the reverse rotation of your palms.
  6. Repeat the movement for the recommended number of repetitions.
