What is the Cable Shrugs?

Cable shrugs are an excellent exercise to target and isolate the trapezius muscles. Using a cable machine allows for continuous tension, making it ideal for both beginners and advanced athletes seeking optimized trapezius development. Perfect for building and reinforcing a strong upper frame, cable shrugs efficiently fit into an upper body strength training program.

How to properly perform the Cable Shrugs

  1. Stand facing a cable machine with your feet shoulder-width apart.
  2. Grasp the cable handle with an overhand grip and let your arms hang down in front of your body.
  3. Keeping your arms straight, elevate your shoulders as high as possible by contracting your traps.
  4. Hold the peak contraction for a moment, then slowly lower your shoulders back down to the starting position.
  5. Repeat for the recommended number of repetitions.
