What is the Chair Dips?
Chair dips are a bodyweight pushing exercise performed between two chairs, and they are one of the few home movements that load the triceps and the chest the way a parallel bar dip does. Your hands rest on the edge of each chair and your feet stay on the floor in front of you, so you control how much of your bodyweight the arms actually carry: the further forward your feet, the harder the movement becomes. Leaning the torso slightly forward shifts the emphasis toward the chest, while staying upright keeps the work on the triceps. The setup demands stable, non-rolling chairs and honest attention to depth, because dropping too low puts the shoulder into a position it cannot control. Treat it as a strength movement rather than a conditioning one and it earns its place in a home routine.
How to properly perform the Chair Dips
- Place two chairs parallel to each other, slightly wider than shoulder-width apart.
- Put your hands on the edge of each chair and your feet on the floor in front of you.
- Slowly lower your body by bending your elbows until your arms reach a 90 degrees angle.
- Keep your torso leaning slightly forward to target the chest.
- Push back up to the starting position.
- Repeat for the recommended number of repetitions.
