What is the Sumo Squat (male)?

The sumo squat is a variation of the squat that effectively targets the adductor muscles, quadriceps, and glutes. This movement is ideal for building lower body strength and improving stability. Due to its wide stance, it offers a different muscular activation than traditional squats.

How to properly perform the Sumo Squat (male)

  1. Stand with your feet wider than shoulder-width apart, toes pointed slightly outward.
  2. Keep your chest up and your back straight.
  3. Lower your body by bending your knees and pushing your hips back, as if sitting into a chair.
  4. Go down until your thighs are parallel to the ground or lower, keeping your knees aligned with your toes.
  5. Push through your heels to return to the starting position.
  6. Repeat for the recommended number of repetitions.
