What is the Barbell Wide Shrug?

The barbell wide shrug is a strength exercise primarily targeting the trapezius muscles. This exercise is perfect for building strength and mass in the traps, enhancing the muscled appearance of the shoulders and neck. It can be adapted for different skill levels by adjusting the weight.

How to properly perform the Barbell Wide Shrug

  1. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, holding a barbell with both hands in front of your thighs.
  2. Keep your arms straight and your shoulders relaxed.
  3. Shrug your shoulders up towards your ears, squeezing your traps at the top of the movement.
  4. Lower your shoulders back down to the starting position.
