What is the Standing Barbell Twist?

The standing barbell twist is an excellent exercise to target the oblique muscles and improve core mobility. This exercise is suitable for both beginners and advanced practitioners, allowing them to work on trunk rotation and strengthen stabilizing muscles.

How to properly perform the Standing Barbell Twist

  1. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, holding a barbell with both hands in front of your chest.
  2. Keep your back straight and engage your core.
  3. Rotate your torso to one side, twisting from your waist.
  4. Pause briefly at the end range of the movement, feeling the stretch in your obliques.
  5. Rotate back to the starting position and then repeat the twist to the opposite side.
  6. Continue alternating sides for the recommended number of repetitions.
