What is the Alternating Lateral Bodyweight Lunges?

The alternating lateral bodyweight lunges are an excellent exercise for targeting the thigh and glute muscles. This exercise is ideal for improving stability and unilateral strength and can be included in nearly any training program.

How to properly perform the Alternating Lateral Bodyweight Lunges

  1. Start by standing with your feet shoulder-width apart and your hands on your hips.
  2. Take a big step to the side with one leg, keeping your chest up and your core engaged.
  3. Bend the knee of the stepping leg and lower your body into a lunge position, making sure your knee stays in line with your toes.
  4. Push through the heel of the stepping leg to return to the starting position.
  5. Repeat on the opposite side, stepping to the other side with the opposite leg.
  6. Continue alternating side lunges for the recommended number of repetitions.
