What is the Deadlifts from Blocks?

The deadlift from blocks is a variation of the traditional deadlift that reduces the range of motion and focuses on the upper part of the lift. This exercise is ideal for increasing back and hip strength.

How to properly perform the Deadlifts from Blocks

  1. Set up blocks or platforms at the desired height, typically just below knee level.
  2. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, toes pointing forward.
  3. With a neutral spine and braced core, bend at the hips and knees to lower yourself down and grasp the bar with a shoulder-width grip.
  4. Drive through your heels, engage your glutes, and lift the bar by extending your hips and knees.
  5. Stand tall, maintaining a neutral spine, and pause at the top of the movement.
  6. Lower the bar back down under control, maintaining proper form throughout the exercise.
  7. Repeat for the recommended number of repetitions.
