What is the Smith Machine Incline Bench Press?

The Smith Machine Incline Bench Press is a fundamental exercise for targeting the upper chest muscles. With the guided bar, this exercise offers increased stability, making it ideal for those looking to focus on the movement without worrying about balance. It's a great addition to any strength training program aimed at building muscle mass and strength in the upper body.

How to properly perform the Smith Machine Incline Bench Press

  1. Sit on the incline bench of the Smith machine.
  2. Place your feet firmly on the floor to ensure good stability.
  3. Grip the bar with a slightly wider than shoulder-width grip.
  4. Slowly lower the bar until it touches the upper part of the chest, keeping the elbows slightly bent and the shoulders back.
  5. Push the bar upward, primarily using the muscles of the chest and shoulders.
  6. Lock out the arms at the top of the contraction, then lower the bar back down in a controlled manner to the starting position.
  7. Repeat for the recommended number of repetitions.
