What is the Barbell Stiff Leg Deadlift?

The barbell stiff leg deadlift is a compound exercise that primarily targets the hamstrings and glutes. This exercise is ideal for improving lower body strength and hamstring flexibility. Suitable for practitioners of all levels, from beginners to advanced.

How to properly perform the Barbell Stiff Leg Deadlift

  1. Stand with your feet hip-width apart and your knees slightly bent.
  2. Hold a barbell with an overhand grip, hands shoulder-width apart, and let it hang in front of your thighs.
  3. Keeping your back straight and your core engaged, hinge at the hips and lower the barbell towards the floor, keeping your legs relatively straight.
  4. Lower the barbell as far as your flexibility allows, feeling a stretch in your hamstrings.
  5. Keep your weight in your heels and maintain tension in your hamstrings.
  6. Engage your hamstrings and glutes to raise your body back up to the starting position.
  7. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.
