What is the Alternating Barbell Curtsy Squats?

The alternating barbell curtsy squats are a squat variation that targets the leg muscles, particularly the quadriceps, glutes, and hamstrings. This exercise also enhances stability and balance, making it perfect for functional training sessions. Suitable for all fitness levels, it can be performed with light to moderate weights.

How to properly perform the Alternating Barbell Curtsy Squats

  1. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and hold a barbell across your upper back, gripping it with an overhand grip.
  2. Take a step diagonally behind you with your right foot, crossing it behind your left leg as you bend both knees into a curtsy squat position.
  3. Keep your chest lifted, core engaged, and weight distributed evenly between both legs.
  4. Push through your front heel to return to the starting position, then repeat the curtsy squat on the opposite side.
  5. Continue alternating sides, maintaining a controlled and stable movement throughout.
  6. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions on each side.
